Birdhouse.

I just wanted to take a moment to write a little post about a certain family that means the world to me.
Next to my own family of course.
This post will be more for me than anyone else.

The Birds

Andy, Shane, Danny and Michelle
This picture is old of them, but it's the only one I can find on Layne's facebook of all four children in one picture!

Layne and Dennis
Shane and Leslie
Danny
Michelle
Andy

For those of you who don't know, which I am going to assume all of you do,
I have a missonary.
His name is
Andrew Bird.

Us at a Bee's Game with the Birds

Our Story:
The week of June 20-24,2005, I went to an EFY in Salt Lake. It wasn't like the normal EFY where you sleep there in the dorms and it costs a million dollars. This one was from 9am-9pm every day for a week. You'd go home and sleep in your own bed (in my case, Grandpa Stallings house). It only cost like $60 dollars or something. Basically, it was exactly like the normal EFY minus having to wake up at 6am! It was tons of fun.
Anyway, Andy happened to be at the same EFY with me. We were in the same group and I thought he was cute. Funny part of the story that he and others won't let me forget, I liked another boy there named Allyn. He was NERDY!
(Looking back I can't believe what I was thinking!)
While I was goo goo over Allyn, my cousin Emily who came to EFY with me was liking Andy. During one of the dances, I wasn't feeling well so I went out in the hall to sit for a little bit. As I was sitting there, Andy
(who happens to hate dancing as much as me)
came out and started talking to me. I didn't think anything of it except that he was really nice!
(now if any of you know Andy you know that...this is weird!! so for him to come up to me is crazy!)
While we were sitting there talking, my "crush" Allyn, came out to ask me to dance. Away I went with Allyn, leaving Andy sitting there alone...poor thing.
After EFY, I would talk to Andy every once in a while on MSN messenger. I'd tell him about all the boys I was crushing on at the time.
(he makes fun of me for that still)
Emily was still liking Andy and I was talking to her one day and I was sort of telling her how "unless she thinks her and Andy are going to go anywhere, she might as well move on."
(please forgive me Em, love you)
She eventually agreed.
A few months later, Andy and I began to talk more and more. I fell for him and his adorable-ness.
(the talk with emily wasn't on purpose to get him to myself!!)
Months went by and we saw each other once or twice. One of those times being when I was sleeping over at Emily's he came over to say Hello since he was only 15 minutes away...
(emily you are probably laughing at all this now...at least i hope!).
June 24, 2006 came along and we decided to become "boyfriend and girlfriend". We were official.
In 2009, he left on an LDS mission. We had dated for 3 years (on and off) and then he left me to go serve the Lord. It was hard, but I wouldn't want him any other place right now.
We both decided it would be best for me to not wait for him, but if I am around when he gets home we'll try things out and see what happens. He now has 4ish months left!
This June 24, 2011 will be our 5th year of "dating"
(if you could call it that since he's been gone 2 years)
It's so crazy to me to think that we've known each other for 6 long wonderful years!

(Picture in the top right corner b/w was taken when we first started dating as 15 and 16 year olds)

The family:
While Andy and I were dating the 3 years before his mission, we spent a lot of time talking and getting to know each other. It took us a whole year before we even kissed! It took even longer for me to not be shy to go to his house when his family was there.
As time went on, I became closer and closer to his family. When he left on his mission we'd get together almost every month for family dinner and games.
(morgan's and bird's)
I consider his nieces and nephews (mia, dylan, layla and soon to be devin) to be my own nieces and nephews! I love everything about this family. They know how to treat others. They truly have the light of Christ in their lives. Layne is always looking out for others before herself. They all know how to be a close family and trust me..they are. There's not one thing they wouldn't do for each other. I feel so lucky to have been included with such open arms into this family. They love me for who I am and I don't have to pretend to be anyone else.
I want the Bird family to know how much I love and care about them! I will always be here when they need me.
Andy and I promised each other that even if we aren't meant to be..we'll always stay best friends.
I love him so much and I'm proud of every single thing he is doing and has done.

LOVE YOU ALL!
You guys mean the world to me and I hope that we will always continue making memories together!

Thank you Layne for your picture taking skills and for letting me steal the pictures ;)

Do you need some fun games to play with the family this holiday?
Games that....
  • you can play with lots of people?
  • require as little as paper and pencils?
  • are easy to learn?
Then I've got some games for you!
My brother Vince and his wife Katie always come down to visit and when they do, they usually bring new games for us to play. These are just a few of our favorite games to play as a family. We didn't know the real name of the games, so just know that they might have a different name!

1. "Family Game" or "Name Game"
      at least 4 players

Materials Needed:
Evenly cut out pieces of paper
Pencils or Pens (not both)
Bowl

Set-up:
All players sit in a circle

Instructions:
First, everyone takes one piece of paper and writes down a name. ANY name. It can be Disney Characters, regular names, name of a person in the room, etc. You don't want the name to have any relation to you. (i.e. I wouldn't want to put Harry Potter down because everyone would guess my name and I'd be out).

Second, the names go into a bowl and are mixed up. One person in the group (usually someone who doesn't know everyones handwriting) will read through each name ONCE. *Be sure to remember the names read* When all the names have been read through, pick someone to start. That person will ask another person in the room if they are one of the names read. If it is the name they wrote down they say, "yes". If it is not the name they wrote down they say, "no". Guesses continue around the circle.

Example Round:

Players:
Chase
Bailey
Vince
Phill

Names read:
Cinderella
Lance
Ralph
Ronald

Chase starts. Chase says, "Vince are you Ronald?". Vince then says, "No".
It is now the person next to Chase that guesses.
Bailey guesses, "Phill are you Ronald?" Phill then says, "Yes".
Now Bailey and Phill are on a team, and they can converse with each other who they think everyone else is.

How to Win:
The way to win is by guessing everyone elses name before they guess your name.
Once you have everyone in your "family" then you win!

2. "Gossip"
     even number of players
     1 coin tosser

Materials Needed:
A quarter
Chairs (for each player and 2 extra)
Blanket or soft surface
Cup or Ball

Set-up:
Line the chairs up in two rows facing each other with room to walk in between.
Set the 2 extra chairs on either side of the two rows. These are the two teams.
Place the cup or ball on one of the end chairs. (side B)
The coin tosser sits at the opposite end of the cup or ball with a blanket or soft surface on their lap. (side A)

Instructions:
The player closest to Side A watches closely at the coin tossers lap where the coin will land.
The rest of the players are looking at Side B.
All players on each team are holding hands.
The Coin Tosser will then flip the coin.
Heads you squeeze your hand
Tails you don't squeeze your hand
If it is Heads you are sending that signal down your row. Once the last person on Side B feels his/her hand get squeezed then they try to be the first to grab the cup or ball.
If it is Tails the coin tosser will flip again until Heads is shown.
If you squeeze and it is not Heads then you have to rotate backwards.
If your team successfully grabs the cup or ball, your team rotates forwards.

Rules:
The coin tosser is the JUDGE, "false starts" "who grabbed it first?" etc.

How to Win:
The first team to get back to the position they started in wins!

3. "Mafia"
    at least 6 players

Materials Needed:
Pieces of paper (can be used with a deck of cards)
Bowl
1 person Narrator

Set-up: (set up for 12 players) (change numbers depending on how many players therer are)
On 3 pieces of paper write M for Mafia
On 3 pieces of paper write D for Detective
On 6 pieces of paper write C for Civilian
Players all sit in a circle.
Narrator walks around circle with the bowl of papers and each player picks out one paper, NOT showing what it says to anyone.

Rules:
Only the Narrator can talk until he/she gives permission for accusations.
If you are dead,
*You are not allowed to talk the remainder of the game, but you are allowed to keep your eyes open.*

Dialogue for Game Play:

Narrator-
Everyone close your eyes
(once all eyes are closed cont.)
Mafia open your eyes
(point out who each one is in case they can't see each other)
Mafia who do you want to kill?
(mafia being silent point to who they want to kill off first, making sure the Narrator can see who they choose)
Mafia close your eyes
(once all eyes are closed again cont.)
Detectives open your eyes
(point out who each one is in case they can't see each other)
Detectives who do you think is in the Mafia?
(detectives being silent point to who they think is in the mafia)
*Nod yes or no to the detectives depending on if they chose a Mafia member or not*
Detectives close your eyes
(once all eyes are closed again cont.)
Everyone open your eyes
insert persons name you were killed by the Mafia. (come up with a fun death story if you'd like)
What were you? (M, D, C)

Okay, it is now time for everyone in the circle to start accusations on who they think is in the Mafia
Once you have narrowed the accusations down to 2 or 3 people, have those 2 or 3 people plead their case.
Now have a re-vote. Whoever has the most votes is killed and they reveal what they were (M, D, C).

Continue the game by starting the Dialogue for Game Play again.

How to win:
Mafia wins by killing all the Detectives before all the Mafia die.
Everyone else wins by killing the Mafia before all the Detectives die.

Well these are just a few of the fun games we love to play when we all get together!
I will probably continue posting new games in the future!

Day of Thanks

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

It's finally here!
I feel like it was just yesterday that I was stuffing my face with...
Candied Yams
If there is one thing that I cannot wait for when it comes to Thanksgiving, it's the Yams.
I will eat them for weeks and weeks after!
I will eat them for every meal...and a lot of them too!
Besides the yams, there are a few other things I love about Thanksgiving as well:

....Thanksgiving is a day when we get to be with our families. I didn't realize how big of a luxury this was until I moved out this year. Now, i've moved out before but it was never like this. And yes I know..I'm still in Orem. So I don't know why this year is so different for me. Maybe it's because I've made it a bigger point to not run home all the time but to be independent. It's so nice to be able to come over to my parents and hang out with my whole family. We are all really close to each other and that makes for a good time!

....Starting around the time of Thanksgiving, we make what we like to call....SLUSH. It's frozen juice and fruit that we cut up into squares to put in a cup and pour Sprite over the top of it. We then crush it up to make it "slushy"! It's heavenly and it always disappears around New Years. It's funny that this drink is a Holiday drink and instead of making it in the summer when this cold drink would fit perfectly we always make it in the winter. It just wouldn't be thanksgiving, christmas, or new years without Slush.

....Usually every year we switch off which side of the family we visit. This year we are going to the Stallings side up in Salt Lake. It doesn't matter what side we go to, or if we stay home for our own thanksgiving, we always have a chance to sit down and write what we are thankful for. I'm going to take a chance right now and write a few things down for myself.

1. My family-
They are always there for me when I am down. They know the right things to do and say when I need to smile or laugh. They love me for who I am!

2. My Best Friend Lawren-
When Lawren moved into my ward, we became friends. Our last few years in Young Women, we were inseparable...only at church. Anything that we did as Young Women, you could count on Lawren and I being right there next to each other. A year after we graduated from Young Women she went away to college up in Rexburg, ID. After the semester was over in Decemeber, she came home. Unfortunately, while she was gone, her family moved to a different ward. So we rarely saw each other. Every night I would sit alone at my house, either going to bed at 8:30pm or hanging out with my family. I had no girls to hang out with. My parents always kept telling me I should call Lawren! Finally, one night I did. I invited her at 11:00pm to go to a boys house. We became best friends after that and were inseparable ever since.

3. My roomates-
Heather, Michelle, and Morgan. These girls are amazing. When I first moved in I was scared. I didn't know anyone and I didn't know what to expect. Little did I know, they were feeling the same way about me moving in. Heather and Morgan had been living there a whole year together, and Michelle moved in at the beginning of summer but had lived in a different apartment before that. So needless to say, they all knew Ventana a lot better than I did. They accepted me into their apartment with open arms..(once they realized I was better than their old roomate). Each one of these girls is unique in their own way. We all get along really well and I feel so blessed to be put in the apartment I was placed in.

4. The gospel-
Painting by Marcia Cox Johnson of the beautiful St. George Temple surrounded by the red cliffs
My life has always had it's ups and downs. Whose hasn't?! I've always known that the gospel can make you feel happy when you are feeling at your low. But it was always hard for me to put the gospel first in my life. I have always been a somewhat good kid. I always went to church because I wanted to not for my parents. I always had a calling in the young women that I took very seriously. I love the church. My dad sat the family down one day to have a start a new thing every morning. He promised us that if we did this thing that we would truely feel a difference in our lives. We would be happier with our friends, family and everyone around us. This thing was the "Morgan Five"

Morgan Five:
1. Read your scriptures
2. Pray
3. Make your bed/Get your house in order
4. Eat breakfast
5. Brush your teeth

If we do these five things every morning we are..1.and 2. Pleasing our Heavenly Father and Jesus. 3. Pleasing your parents/roomates/spouse. 4. Pleasing yourself. 5. Pleasing others around you.
I encourage all of you reading this to also do the Morgan Five! It can be the "(insert your name) five"!

5. A job-
In times like these, I understand how hard it is for people to find jobs and/or keep them. I am blessed to have a good job. My senior year, I got my dental assisting certificate. I've loved working right along side both my mom and dad. They have both taught me so much and continue to teach me something every day. It's tough working with family everyday. I am truely grateful for my parents to be able to work every day together and still love each other at home. I moved out because it was hard for me to want to go to work every day when I was living with my boss. So I am very envious of them for being able to do that every day.

6. A car-
The other day I had to go to a hearing interview to determine whether or not they would suspend my license. It wasn't until then that I realized how much I was dependent upon my car/license. I use my car to drive 15 minutes everyday to work. Especially in these winter days, I am thankful to have a warm car. I also realize when I don't have my car how much I love it when I do.

old picture

7. Light-
You don't realize how light up the world is around you until the power goes out. My apartment is surrounded by hotels and businesses. I never realized how bright it was down there until the power went out one day. I have never felt more alone than I did when that happened. My phone had died, and my roomates were not home. I sat in my car charging my phone in there until the power came back on. It was a very eery feeling being there when the power went out.

8. Food-
Food is amazing. Being a starving student living on my own with hardly any money. I realized how yummy food really is.

9. My friends-
My other friends besides, Lawren and my roomates. I am thankful for each one of them. Whether we are friends still or not. They all had a hand in getting me to where I am today. I am truely thankful for them. I believe very much in fate and that everything happens for a reason. They were all put in front of me for a reason and I can owe some of it to them for making me the person I am today.

10. Missionaries-
Those of you who know me, know that I have sent out a LOT of missionaries. A few boyfriends, but most of them just friends. I know how good it is to serve a mission after seeing all three of my brothers and one sister-in-law serve. It is amazing to see the growth of these boys. I may not be the best writer, but I want all my missionaries to know how much they mean to me! I am so thankful for each one of them for the amazing example they are to those around them.

Just 3 of my many missionaries!

Now there are a lot more things I am thankful for but for now, this list shall do!

I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving today.
Take a minute for yourself to remember all the many things you are thankful for and why.

My Brother

Today we got news...
Something exciting...
Best news of the day...
Happening in 72 days...
Can you guess what it is?

February 3, 2011
4:07pm

Where will the Morgan family be?
We'll will be driving north...
1 hour north of Provo...
We'll be bringing home...

Elder Charles Morgan!!

Let me just give you a little backround on Chase.
Chase Morgan aka Charles Morgan
aka
my best friend.

Ever since I was little, I had my own room. Being the only girl in my family, my parents had no reason to make me share my room with one of my brothers. However, I was terrified of the green light that was on the smoke alarm. So every night, Chase would volunteer to sleep on my trundle bed to make me feel safe. He would sleep in my room through the night and in the morning he'd go up to his room to shower and get ready for school. Eventually, we ended up just moving his belongings into my room to make things easier. Looking back I think of all the fun memories that Chase and I had while sharing a room.
I'm thankful for everything he does for me.
I have always been close to Chase but it wasn't until about a year or two before he left on his mission that we got SUPER close. I turned to him for everything and he turned to me as well. We were always there for each other when we could be. Nothing has changed and I know that nothing will ever change.
Chase is a super fun kid. He is a "nerdy jock" if you could say that. He's athletic and likes to run around but he's still a big nerd. Before his mission he was working at an Architecteral Firm and was loving it.
Chase is the greatest missionary I know. He is one of the hardest workers. He knows the gospel is true. He is an amazing example to everyone he comes in contact with. His mission president even wanted to keep him out another year (over my dead body..)!! He knows what's right and he will do anything to do the right thing in life. I always strive to be just like him.

Some people call them brothers, I call them...
 Best Friends

I LOVE YOU CHARLES!!

Dear my Heather love,
Happy Birthday!! I know we have only known each other for 4 1/2 short months, but i want you to know that you mean the world to me! From the day that I moved in you were always so nice and sweet to me. I loved when you came into my room and looked at my movies and books and said, "if i was to judge you off of your movies and books, i'd know for sure that we will get along very well." We've had so many fun times together and I hope that doesn't stop! I look up to you in everything you do! You are an amazing girl and I am happy to call you a best friend! It is weird to think that you are not a teenager anymore! No more [teen.age. dreams] for you! I hope you know that I would do anything for you! You deserve to have a perfect day today and I hope that's how it is for you!
Thank you for everything you have done for me. Thank you for waiting out in the cold with me for 12 hours to see HP7 part 1. Thank you for all the times you've let me sit in your room and vent. Thank you for embarking on many random adventures with me such as...gardner village wand shopping, london market, haunted forest, st. george, D.I. and many many more. Most of all, thank you for your love of the gospel. You have taught me so much when it comes to the church. You are a strong girl. Don't change anything about you!

Love always,
Bailey Morgan

Don't hate me for this (:

Ryan Matthew Morgan

Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday dear Ryan!
Happy Birthday to you.

November 13, 2009

He was 1oz smaller than I was when I was born.
He was 6lbs13oz.

Smiling since he was born!
Such a happy boy!

He's getting so big!

He makes the funniest faces.

He's a big 1 year old!!!
Yesterday, was Ryan's birthday! We celebrated last night with opening presents, eating cake and ice cream, and of course watching him stuff his own face with cake.

YUMMY!

Of course like any good 1 year olds birthday party, the birthday boy gets bored of opening all the presents and wants to just play with the first one he opened while all the other little kids are opening his other presents. We had to keep reminding Kendrick, "whose toys are those? whose birthday is it? Teach ryan how to play with HIS toys! Etc."
All in all it was a fun night for everyone.
It was really nice to have the whole family together..minus Chase.

Kendrick and Ryan riding the scooter 11/13/10

This boy loves:
-his mama
-music
-his brother
-dogs
-his dad
-watching sports
-eating
(even though he has the metabolism of his dad)
-grandpa and grandma

This boy hates:
-sleeping
-car rides
-not being able to see his mom
-yelling
-being sick

Overall, this little dude is a happy happy boy!
He's such a joy to have around.
It's been fun to watch him grow up and learn new things.

Happy Birthday my little Murmur Ryan!
I love being your Auntie!

A Weekend Away...

A few months ago, the roomates and I planned a trip to St. George together. It was a great idea because we'd only have to pay for gas and groceries since both sides of my family have condos down there that we would be able to stay at. We planned it for November 3-7. Everyone got work off, and figured it out with school so that all four of us would be able to go! The night before everyone in the aparment could feel the tension growing. Unfortunately/Luckily, the tension exploded the night before we were supposed to leave for St. George. We had a "family meeting" and we all let out our thoughts and concerns. People's feelings got hurt and the mood was definately at a low point. The talk was well needed and we all felt good about the talk after it was over. Needless to say...Michelle and Morgan still didn't feel up to coming on a road trip...bad timing I guess.
So Heather and I packed up our stuff, said our goodbyes, and hit the road around 8pm on wednesday night. Knowing we had a long, dark 4 hour car ride ahead of us, we got munchies, and Dr. Pepper to help us stay awake the whole drive down there. With our music playing and us talking about everything under the sun...or moon in our case...we made it to Beaver around 10:00.
Running inside to pee we noticed in the 25 cent machines there was one that held mustaches.
"When you see a mustache in a 25 cent machine you stop and ask yourself...is this what i'm missing in my life? and the answer of course is yes!"
-Heather
We of course bought them and put them on right away. It took about 10 pictures to be able to get one where we weren't laughing. While we were taking pictures, we looked in front of us inside the gas station and saw the mexican worker staring at us. We caught eyes and then he proceeded to blow us kisses.
Freaked out we decided to leave ASAP

Around midnight, we arrived in St.George at the condo. We unloaded our things and got into bed exhausted. One thing people quickly learn about me after spending a night with me...I get in bed and start to get hyper. Of course me being hyper made Heather hyper. Around 2:00 in the morning we decided we'd better go to bed...for real.
The next morning we woke up to the sun shining and the highs being at 80 degrees. We jumped in our swim suits and went out to get some color on our white skin. It was so heavenly.
We kept saying, "can you believe it's november and we are swimming?"
Thank you St. George for boosting our spirits with your wonderful sunlight.

That same night we went to the Mae concert that Allred opened for. (no pictures sorry..). My good friend Tate from Allred put two tickets in the front for us to pick up. We just walked up to the booth and told him our names and he gave us the tickets...yup that's right..FREE.
Free Mae concert? I love being a groupie for Allred ;)
It was a good night. We hung out with Tanner Stevenett, Tate Law, Nate Abbott, Shane Cottle, Jesse Wride, Trent Davis, and of course John Allred. It was a lot of fun. Sadly they had to leave right after the concert because they were going home that night.
When we got home we went right to bed because the next day we were planning on going to Vegas! The original plan was to go to Vegas because Morgan and Michelle had never been there so we wanted to take them there. We still had a good time even though we wished they had been with us.

We started at the MGM Grand. We figured we could walk on that side first and wrap around and come back on the other side. That changed when we got to the other end and decided we wanted to eat at the Hard Rock Cafe instead of Serendipity 3.

We went in the MGM Grand first to visit the little Lion Habitat.

Then started the long trek down the strip. Along the strip there are many people dressed up as tons of different things from Elvis Presley to Alan from the Hangover.

Midgets dressed up,

Homer Simpson,

Buzz Lightyear,

and of course Woody.

We often stopped to watch these guys. They are very entertaining.

We also saw someone get pulled over right in the middle of the strip...

by two officers on bicycles.

We went into the M&M World.

And the Coco-Cola store as well. As we were walking around the store we saw a few different people with two trays with 8 drinks on them. We were really curious so we went up to the register to find out what it was. The lady informed us that it is a "Tastes of the World" for $7. Sounds fun we thought! So we bought it. We took the tray down to start trying out each flavor. Taking turns we read the name of the drink and where it was from then took a sips.

Some of them were tolerable, but none of them were delicious.

There was one.....
the name was Beverly's from Italy.
It looked like sprite. It was Heather's turn to go first to take a sip. She figured, "the others weren't too bad so i'll take a bigger sip this time." Her face began to contort and she started to gag. We both busted out laughing while she said, "I tried to pretend so you wouldn't know.." I still wanted to try it because I didn't want her to have to suffer through that alone.
I took a tiny sip.
Gagged.
Chugged another tolerable drink to get that horrible taste out of my throat and mouth.
If you are ever in Italy..I don't recommend trying Beverly's. Pure carbonated rubbing alcohol.
NASTY!

After eating at the Hard Rock Cafe for dinner we walked back down to the other end of the strip in front of Caesars Palace to Serendipity 3. We didn't want to eat dinner there but if you've ever seen the movie Serendipity, they have a drink there that is to die for.
Frrrrozen Hot Chocolate.

We waited for a table for about an hour and 10 minutes, because they wrote down the wrong beeper number for us.

We waited about 10 minutes for the waiter to come and take our order.
We waited another 10 minutes for the waiter to bring out our Frrrozen Hot Chocolate.

After all that waiting, we finished the Frrrozen Hot Chocolate in about 2 minutes.
Anytime you go to Vegas or New York. I strongly suggest going to Serendipity 3. They have delicious food and amazing desserts. Well worth the price!
"It's Serendipity good"
Peace. Love. Serendipity.

The next day, we were going to stay and lay out in the sun again but the sky was filled with clouds so we figured we might as well go home. We cleaned everything up and packed up the car.
By the time we passed Beaver again, we realized how dumb we were for coming home.
We love St. George too much to leave it.

Until next time...you will be missed St. George.

Thanks for a great trip Heather!
