Yesterday, my mom went out to walk to the dog.
As she was walking, she saw Bentley slip on some ice, so she tried to get around it, but ended up slipping too.
She landed on her wrist while Bentley ran down the street (stupid dog).
She went after him and got him inside. She went to my dad and told him that she thinks she broke her wrist.
My dad looked at it and just by looking at it knew it didn't look good.
They called our friend Curtis Johnson who is a hand specialist.
He told them to go to either Utah Valley Hospital or Orem Community Hospital.
They chose to go to Orem Community because it is usually less crowded.
Curtis Johnson had told my dad to call him when they got to the hospital.
So they did, and Curtis came down to take a look.
They took some x rays and ended up putting her under so they could move some bones around.
The doctors told her that on a scale of 1-10, 10 being the worst break, she was at a 10.5
It wasn't looking good and they said that she'd have to go into surgery.
They scheduled surgery for today at 2pm.
While she was in the ER, her blood pressure wasn't going up and they didn't want to release her until it had.
The anti-nausea medication that they had her on was making her sick, so they tried 2 other medications to see if that helped. Finally the last one worked and her blood pressure got to where they wanted it.
They released her from the ER around 3pm.

Today, she got a call from the doctor that he could get her in at 12 instead of 2 if she'd like to do that.
She was very ready to get this over with so she said that'd be fine.
They got to the hospital at 11 this morning and got admitted into the OR around 1pm.
It is scheduled to be an hour and a half procedure and she should be able to be home by 4pm.

Thank you to everyone who has been praying for her!
She needed it. She was very nervous (who wouldn't be), for the surgery.

Post Surgery Status:
Around 1pm, my mom finally went in for surgery. It was about an hour and half surgery.
They gave her a block anesthetic, which means, they numbed her whole arm from the shoulder down.
The reason for this was so that they would not need to sedate her as much as they had the day before.
They gave her a conscious sedation like you would recieve to get your wisdom teeth out.
When Dr. Johnson got in there, it was a lot worse than a 10.5 like he had thought before.
None the less, the surgery was very successful.
They placed plates, screws, and wires in her wrist.
At about 3:30pm-4pm she was out of the ER and on her way home.
The doctors told her to stay up on her medications because it is easier to keep the pain away than to fight the pain when it comes.
She was happy as can be after surgery, which was a total improvement to how she felt the day before!
The effects of her whole arm being numb was very amusing to her. She kept laughing because she thought that her arm was in a different place than it was. She felt it one place but looked down and it was in a totally different place.
Doctors told her not to do anything for the first 24 hours.
She has a post OP appointment in about 2 weeks.
All is well!
This is a picture the doctor drew.
The "routine" is of a average break on that bone in your wrist.
The "Sue!!" is how my mom broke it.
The black is the bones and how they are broken, the blue is the plates and wires to fix it.
This is her xray

Oh my gosh that is terrible!!! Hope she is doing okay.. I feel so bad for her. We will see you this Sunday and I'll definitely bring my new camera. That first picture with the boys is awesome!
